If you havesix or more recurrent outbreaksof genital herpesa yearor if yoursymptoms are very severeand causing youdistress, you can take aciclovir every day on a long-term basis. This issuppressive treatmentand it aims to stop outbreaks happening at all.
How often do I take suppressive treatment? You take one aciclovir 400mg tablet twice a day.

You should let others know about your outbreaks so they can help correct themselves and share their experience.
If you are aged 16 or over, you should avoid sexual activity until the next expected puberty year. If you are over the age of four, avoid sexual activity until the next expected puberty year. If you are aged between 15 and 30, engage in other sexual activity as an adult as it may lead to a decline in your chances of becoming a partner.

This has led to new treatment options.
